Culture Unwrapped: Public Arts Festival

Taking Arts to the People in the Streets of Hamilton, Bermuda!

From May 2 – 30th, 2010 the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs will be hosting the Culture Unwrapped: Public Arts Festival. 

This is a Pilot Programme which aims to promote and engage local arts and artists by providing spaces for street performances and exhibitions in a month long festival event.

All participants must REGISTER with the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs. All registration documentation is online at www.communityandculture.bm/pages/cultureunwrapped

 

The Festival in Brief

Performance Artists have two locations to perform:

  • Par-la-Ville Park (outside main gates)
  • Nellie’s Walk (in front of City Hall) 

Visual Artists have one location to display their works and workshop on a continual basis:

  • Wesley Square

Rain Location:

  • Under the veranda at Bermuda National Library

Corporation of Hamilton

  • Sponsors the Festival with the City Space and Permissions
  • Provides logistical support for the event

Bermuda Society of the Arts

  • Will hold 3 major events as part of Culture Unwrapped
    • Quick Draw, public art in the streets every Wednesday
    • Art Mart, an art market on  May 22nd
    • Display of public Art, May 21st – June 9th

Bermuda National Gallery

Created two visual arts exhibits from their Youth, Camera, Action programme for permanent display for the duration of the Public Arts Festival.

  • At the gates of Par-la-Ville Park and
  • On the fencing at Wesley Square

Culture Unwrapped will Sponsor (On behalf of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs)

  • Entertainment for the Corporation of Hamilton’s “4 Seasons City Arts Festival” Event “Art in the Park” on May 9th at PAr-la-Ville Park.
