Nellie E. Musson Award

The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs honours Cecile Norma Musson with the naming of the Cecile Norma Musson Prize for Poetry.

Throughout her lifetime, Cecile Norma Musson has gathered awards and acclaim for her various careers. Community activist, educator, editor, and journalist are just a few of her past roles. Born into a family for which literature was an important aspect of life, however, Ms. Musson’s heart has always found its way back to the role of poet.

In 1937, she received critical acclaim following the publication of Zephyrs: A Collection of Poetic Thought. Since that time, Ms. Musson has been published in Rome, England, the West Indies, and the United States. She has received several awards from Italy, notably from the Centro Studi Internazionali Leonardo da Vinci. She has also received awards from the American Biographical Institute and the International Biographical Centre. 2005 saw the publication of Collected Verse of Cecile Norma Musson.

Ms. Musson is a founding member and past president of the Bermuda Writer’s Club and a founding member of the Bermuda Arts Council. In 2001, she was the recipient of the first ever Bermuda Literary Awards Prize for Poetry. In 2008, that same award was named the Cecile Norma Musson Prize for Poetry.
